Carmel College was delighted to welcome Kate Timlin, Senior Associate Director of Admissions at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., as part of the university’s international outreach programme. Kate met with our Year 11 and Sixth Form students to share expert guidance on studying in the United States and what makes American universities such exciting destinations.
Her session offered invaluable insight into how studying in the USA is not only possible but genuinely achievable for students considering global pathways. Throughout the talk, Kate explored several key topics, including:
-
How to apply to U.S. universities and the key differences between the American and UK admissions systems
-
Finance and funding options, including scholarships, grants, and financial aid
-
Life at Georgetown University, from academic pathways to the vibrant campus experience in Washington D.C.
-
The breadth of study programmes available in the U.S., encouraging students to think globally about their future careers
Our students engaged enthusiastically, asking thoughtful questions and showing real curiosity about international study routes. It was inspiring to see such ambition and confidence as they explored opportunities beyond the UK.
This visit from Georgetown University has sparked exciting conversations about global education, and we look forward to continuing to support our students as they consider the many pathways available to them.
