We were thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Sophie, who has been awarded Young Citizen of the Year in recognition of her exceptional dedication to supporting young people.

During her time at Carmel College, Sophie was an exemplary Sixth Form student leader. She offered invaluable support in the library, mentored younger students, and consistently provided encouragement, kindness, and a compassionate listening ear. Her natural ability to uplift others made her a much‑loved member of our school community.

Sophie’s commitment to helping young people has continued far beyond her time at Carmel. She now volunteers as the youngest listener at The Listening Post in Darlington, a vital project run by DACYM (Darlington Area Churches Youth Ministry). Established in 2017, The Listening Post offers essential mental health and wellbeing support for young people across the area. Sophie’s involvement demonstrates her ongoing dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

This award is a true testament to Sophie’s compassion, leadership, and unwavering desire to serve her community. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and the way she continues to embody our ethos of living Life to the Full.

Congratulations, Sophie — an inspiring role model for our students and our wider community.
