The Senior Team Maths Challenge (STMC) is a prestigious national competition that brings together talented young mathematicians from schools and colleges across the UK. The event gives students the chance to tackle a range of challenging mathematical activities while developing essential skills in teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving. Dozens of Regional Finals take place each year, with the highest‑scoring teams earning a place in the National Final.

This year, the competition was open to Year 12 and Year 13 students, and Carmel College was proud to send a team of four exceptional Year 12 mathematicians — Tom, Will, Tia, and Lucas — to represent us at the Regional Final hosted at York University.

The standard of competition was incredibly high, with our students going head‑to‑head against some of the brightest young mathematicians in the region. Each task demanded not only strong mathematical ability but also clear communication, strategic thinking, and effective collaboration under pressure.

We were delighted to announce that our team performed exceptionally well and successfully progressed to the next round. This fantastic achievement is a testament to their hard work, resilience, and outstanding problem‑solving skills.

A huge congratulations to Tom, Will, Tia, and Lucas — you have made Carmel College extremely proud.
